Tourist Mobility to Thousand Islands will Be Tightened

We'll send officers this weekend. Ship passengers must be restricted. If the number hits 800-1,000 people, we will stop the ship's departure

The Thousand Islands Regency is tightening regional surveillance on Tidung Island, especially tourist access to settlement islands, to anticipate the spread of COVID-19.

Thousand Islands Vice Regent Junaedi disclosed the number of ship passengers was limited through tightening cruise access starting from departure from the pier, especially during weekend holidays.

Transition Period, People's Movement on Tidung and Kelapa Islands Tightened

His side also requested the number of officers on standby at the pier to be increased, as tourists always arrive every weekend.

"We'll send officers this weekend. Ship passengers must be restricted. If the number hits 800-1,000 people, we will stop the ship's departure," he asserted, Wednesday (7/8).

Untung Jawa Urban Village Head Supriyadi explained his side would send more officers from six to eight on the coming weekend.

"In total we have 16 officers. They are tasked with overcoming the surge of tourists heading to Untung Jawa Island," he told.

All this time, he continued, tourists had implemented health protocols such as washing hands, wearing masks and checking body temperature. But, it could not run if the number of tourists continues to rise.

"We still open Untung Jawa Island but limited to visitors," he closed.
